List of conferences and events supported by ECTRI through stands, sponsorship and presentations.

ETC 2018 conference, 10-12 October 2018, Dublin, Ireland

ECTRI was one of the conference supporters and presented the Associations’ activities, projects (e.g. SKILLFUL) and ETRR Journal in the exhibition area. 26 ECTRI members (from DLR, TØI, VTI, IFSTTAR, VUB-MOBI, BME, KTI) presented their research work and 8 were chairing sessions. A special session on ALLIANCE and SKILLFUL projects was held on 11th October: “Education and Training – New challenges towards the Future Transport.” The progress and findings of SKILLFUL and ALLIANCE projects with a strong emphasis on development of linkage between education, research and industry were presented by ECTRI Members: Matina Loukea (HIT) and Irina Jackiva (TTI).

International Transport Forum 2018 Summit, 23-25 May 2018, Leipzig, Germany

The ITF 2018 Summit on “Transport Safety and Security” addressed issues ranging from terrorism and cyber-security to road safety and extreme weather disruption, including the risks and benefits of automated driving. The ITF 2018 Summit participants came from governments, business, international organisations and academia.

ITF Pre-Summit Research Day, 22 May 2018, Leipzig, Germany

The ITF Pre-Summit Research Day was co-organized by ITF together with ECTRI, ERTRAC, TRB, WCTRS and FERSI. The Research Day focused on road safety and transport resilience and brought together top academics and researchers to present and discuss topic relevant to the ITF Summit’s theme. It was attended by more than 60 participants. 5 ECTRI members presented their work on this occasion (DLR, LNEC, FRAUNHOFER, CERTH, UNEW).

RS5C conference, 16-18 May 2018, Jeju Island, South Korea

The Road Safety on Five Continents (RS5C) conference was supported by ECTRI and organised by ECTRI Member VTI in close cooperation with Korea Transportation Safety Authority (KOTSA, TS) and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) in South Korea. With focus on traffic safety and health, experts presented and discussed about important topics and the latest research in the road transport area. By providing a mutual ground for sharing knowledge and a forum to discuss mutual problems and their solutions, researchers, officials and other stakeholders could learn from results, experiences and success stories.

Transport Research Arena 2018 (TRA), 16-19 April 2018, Vienna, Austria

ECTRI was active in TRA 2018 preparation by being member of the Management Committee representing ETRA (European Transport Research Alliance). ECTRI was present at the Exhibition Area with a stand where the Association, its projects, activities and the ETRR Journal were promoted. ECTRI president, Prof M. Robinson, Rapporteur of the conference, presented the conclusions at the closing ceremony. ECTRI members were also involved in a great number of scientific and technical sessions of the conference. SETRIS project final results and brochure were presented and promoted in several sessions, in particular in a Strategic Session “Towards a Truly Integrated Transport System”. This session addresses urban and long distance transport system integration with a keynote speech of SETRIS coordinator and ECTRI President, Prof Mark Robinson. Read the SETRIS final publication. An Invited Session “Modal Synergies for Future Mobility” – was also jointly organised by the SETRIS project ( and the MOBILITY4EU project ( Both projects aimed at contributing to the vision of a connected Europe, by setting the stage for a truly integrated passenger transport system.

TRB 2018 97th Annual Meeting, 7-11 January 2018, Washington D.C., USA

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) 97th Annual Meeting attracted more than 13,000 transportation professionals from around the world and this year the spotlight theme was “Transportation: Moving the Economy of the Future”. The TRB Conference program covered all transportation modes, with more than 5,000 presentations in nearly 800 sessions and workshops, addressing topics of interest to policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions. ECTRI contributed to the Conference by supporting a number of sessions and giving a European flavour to the Annual Meeting. A detailed list of supported events.
