The IRTAD Conference 2026 concluded on 17 April in Athens, bringing together over 320 participants and 330 authors to advance road safety research.
ECTRI was strongly represented, with more than 60 researchers from 13 members contributing across 22 sessions, 90 presentations and 34 posters. Sandra Vieira, ECTRI TG Safety Rapporteur, also joined a panel on key challenges in evidence-based road safety policies.
Congratulations to the ECTRI researchers recognised among 124 submissions:
• Ingeborg Hesjevoll (TØI), Best Paper Award for Researchers
• Valerio Michiorri (Sapienza University of Rome), Best Student Paper Award
An ETRR topical collection featuring the best papers from the conference was also announced – more to come.

ECTRI congratulates the organisers – the International Traffic Safety Data and Analysis Group of the ITF – International Transport Forum at the OECD together with the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and Hellenic Institute of Transportation Engineers (HITE) for the successful edition.
