- Automated container terminals have the potential to be more efficient, reduce operating costs, and increase productivity
- But an analysis of recent academic research and industry data points to reduced rather than improved productivity
- Despite this, future technological developments will help to overcome the challenges facing automated terminals and bring about a new era of efficiency
