ECTRI congratulates incoming Director Vassilios Kappatos for his appointmentas Director of ECTRI Member Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT),of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). He succeeds previous HIT director Evangelos Bekiaris, and assumed the position on March 1, 2026.
Director Vassilios Kappatos, was elected by a seven-member Special Selection Committee, consisting of Greek scientists and academics in Greece and abroad, appointed by the National Council for Research, Technology and Innovation (NCRTI) of the General Secretary for Research and Innovation (GSRI) of the Ministry of Development.
In recent years, he held the position of Head of Sector C “Non-Terrestrial Means, Environmental and Economic Transport Issues” at HIT, having developed a prominent academic career since its entry in the institute in 2019.
ECTRI warmly thanks Evangelos Bekiaris for his accomplishments in leading the Hellenic Institute of Transport since 2016, for his appointment as CERTH Chairman of the Board & Director General, and for his thorough leadership as ECTRI President from 2019-2023.
