ECTRI is currently organising Special Session 29 at the Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2026 entitled “Research and Technology Infrastructures in Transport: Boosting Europe’s Competitiveness and Research Excellence in the Transport Sector.” The objective of this session is to showcase and give visibility to transport research infrastructures across Europe, where we would like to place a particular focus on those within the ECTRI community. In this context, we kindly invite you to provide an overview of the research infrastructure capacities available within your organisation. This may include facilities, laboratories, testing environments, structures, networks, or any other relevant infrastructure supporting transport research. Please ensure that the information shared is suitable for public dissemination, as it may be presented to a broader audience. We may also consider including this information within the ECTRI Member Area as a tool of information sharing within the members of our Community. This initiative is driven by two main factors: it responds to a request from the European Commission, which has expressed strong interest in gaining a clearer understanding of existing transport research infrastructure capacities across Europe. The Commission will take note of the results of our desk research and is exploring the possibility of launching or promoting funding opportunities in this area, including under upcoming calls related to research infrastructures. It will contribute upcoming work under the CENTREe project (ECTRI is partner), starting in May 2026. Within this project, we will carry out a task aimed at mapping the effectiveness of road transport research infrastructures in Europe, particularly in relation to their readiness to operate across different Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), ranging from low to high.
