ECTRI replies to the European Commission call for evidence on EU Ports Strategy

With this initiative, the European Commission aims to frame the current and future challenges for European ports in order to strengthen their sustainability, efficiency, and resilience.

ECTRI welcomes the opportunity to contribute to this process and underlines the following 5 key aspects the EU Ports Strategy should address:

1. Reinforce the role of R&I in implementing the strategy, particularly in the areas of governance, operations, and data use in ports
2. Ensure targeted support for small and medium-sized ports (SMPs)
3. Promote digital integration of all transport modes relevant to ports (from rail freight to inland waterways-based freight)
4. Enhance research on the integration of ports into multimodal corridors to consolidate EU supply chain competitiveness
5. Accelerate electrification and renewable fuels adoption in port operations
