ITF 2022 Pre-Summit Research Day

The ITF Pre-Summit Research Day 2022 was held on May 17 in Leipzig, under the topic of “Transport for Inclusive Societies”. The objective of the event is to foster stronger links between transport research and policy making by bringing together top academics researchers and practitioners to present and discuss topics relevant to the Summit’s theme.

The one-day programme started with the welcoming remarks from Young Tae Kim, ITF Secretary General and the different co-organisers highest representatives, including Angelos Bekiaris, the ECTRI President.

It followed with the four topics sessions, where the selected authors (including Alexandra König, DLR)  presented and discussed with the audience –  of students, representatives from governments, cities, and other decision makers – on how to make transport be a tool for inclusive and sustainable societies.

The event was closed with key points & conclusions delivered by Joshua Paternina Blanco, ITF Policy Analyst and the conclusions by Caroline Alméras, ECTRI secretary General.

At the event, ECTRI renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TRB, in the presence of Neil Pedersen, TRB Executive Director and Evangelos Bekiaris, ECTRI President. This MoU supersedes the one signed in 2017 and reiterates the mutual objectives to foster progress in transport research activities and facilitate greater synergies for information exchange and cooperation that was set in 2006, when the first MoU was signed.


The 2022 ITF Pre-Summit Research Day was organised by the ITF, together with ECTRI, the European Commission, the US TRB and the WCTRS.
