Exciting News! We’re thrilled to announce the kick-off of the SYMPEUS project

Exciting News! We’re thrilled to announce the kick-off of the SYMPEUS project, a Coordination and Support Action under Horizon Europe aimed at fostering collaboration and innovation in the field of Transport Research between the European Union and the United States.

VTI, ECTRI and VDI/VDE-IT are committed to be working closely with the European Commission, in particular with the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) and the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), as well as with US Department of Transport, and the Transportation Research Board (TRB), to support the organisation of four EU-US Transport Research Symposia in the next four years.

These symposia will bring together 50 selected experts from the EU (25) and the US (25) to engage in thought-provoking discussions and knowledge sharing to develop research & innovation recommendations aiming at fostering collaborations on research topics of highest relevance to both EU and the US. The first symposium will take place in June 2024 in Washington DC on the topic of Decarbonization of Transportation.

SYMPEUS will look at involving all relevant stakeholders within the European transport community, including researchers, industry representatives, users, innovation leaders, and more. We will notably consult with key European Technology Platforms and relevant Horizon Europe partnerships in the field, to ensure both high involvement and contributions of their experts in the different symposia and that the results of those symposia are broadly shared, discussed and implemented in their respective communities.

We are excited about this four-year journey that started on October 1st and the positive impact SYMPEUS can make to the field of transport research and international collaboration.

Stay tuned for updates and opportunities to get involved as we work to strengthen the ties between the EU and the US in the domain of transport research.
