DESCRIPTION:Presentations of the Webinar: \n‘How much does railway infrastructure influence the modal shift from road to rail?’ by Stefanie Gaebler (German Centre for Rail Traffic Research – DZSF) \nAbstract: We investigate the effects of train stations on private car ownership. We analyze the openings of more than 170 train stations in Germany between 2009 and 2022\, comparing them to a control group of locations identified as potential candidates for new stations. The results indicate that car registrations per household permanently decline by 4 to 6 percent in the proximity of a newly opened train station. \nAdditionally\, Dr. Gäbler will make a short introduction into the German Centre for Rail Traffic Research (DZSF) and a brief overview of other economic projects they are working on. \nAfter the presentation you will have the opportunity to interact through the Q&A part. \nBio: Dr. Stephanie Gäbler is an economist with a focus on regional and transport economics and an interest in scientific policy advise. She received her Masters and PhD in Economics from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. She has been working in policy consulting for several years\, first as a researcher at an Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich with a focus on regional economics and now at the German Centre for Rail Traffic Research (DZSF) at the Federal Railway Authority with a focus on rail transport analysis.
