DESCRIPTION:On Friday 31st of October\, ECTRI Taskforce Economics & Policy kicked off a new Autumn Webinar Series 2025\, with a presentation from Dr. Ola Qasseer\, from KTI. \nThe presentation “Monocentric or Polycentric? The Role of Public Transport Networks in Shaping Cities“\, discussed the convergence between urban spatial structures and transport network expansions. \nBio of the speaker: Dr. Ola Qasseer has been working at the KTI Institute for Transport Sciences in Budapest as a junior researcher since July 2022 and as a senior researcher since August 2025. In June 2025\, she received the Best Paper & Presentation Award at the Young Researchers Seminar 2025 at BASt (PhD student Tutor for the YRS 2025: Dr. Elisabete Arsenio). Ola Qasseer holds a master’s degree in urban planning and environment from the Faculty of Architectural Engineering at Latakia University\, Syria. On October 13th\, she successfully defended her PhD in the Department of Regional Science at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE)\, Budapest. DESCRIPTION:Title: ‘How System Configuration Shapes Demand: Agent Based Simulation of Mobility-on-Demand systems & policy insights’ \nSpeaker: Tilmann Schlenther from DLR \nBio: Tilmann Schlenther is a Research Associate at the Institute for Transport Research at German Aerospace Center. He studied Transportation Planning and Operations at Technische Universität Berlin\, where he recently completed his PhD. His research focuses on agent-based simulations of innovative mobility concepts\, including autonomous mobility-on-demand systems and the integration of passenger and freight transport. It further encompasses modeling parking and charging behavior\, as well as the analysis of decarbonisation pathways through participatory dialogue with citizens. \nAbstract: To establish Mobility-on-Demand and autonomous Mobility-on-Demand services as part of sustainable transport systems\, a forward-looking configuration process is indispensable. Modern methods such as agent-based transport simulation are particularly well suited for this task\, as they combine the representation of individual travel behavior with the physical interactions of the transport system. This presentation demonstrates how such a simulation framework can be applied as a decision-support tool in the context of a real-world pilot project.
