ECTRI responds to the EC public consultation on the MFF related to the EU funds for competitiveness

In February 2025 the European Commission published a Communication on ‘The Road to the next Multiannual Financial Framework’ which outlines the key policy and budgetary challenges that will shape the design of the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) — the EU’s long-term budget. In view to put forward comprehensive proposals for the post-2027 MFF and for the next generation of financial programmes, the Commission has launched a public consultation inviting stakeholders and citizens to have their say on the future EU budget and the policies it should support.

ECTRI welcomes the opportunity to provide its views on how EU funding mechanisms may contribute to promoting innovation and ensuring the competitiveness of the Union. Those funding mechanisms are essential for supporting joint research, developing new technologies, and reinforcing Europe’s industrial leadership in critical sectors.

In its replies, ECTRI calls for stronger support across all stages of the research and innovation chain, better-defined roles for funding instruments, and a clear separation of long-term research funding under FP10 to safeguard continuity and strategic focus.
