Objectives (long term)
- identify target groups and working structures to ensure safety research and practices based on high quality scientific approach, e.g. APSN, EURNEX, HUMANIST networks of excellence
- information resource for policy makers at European and national level
- establish influence in Europe equivalent to TRB (Safety) in North America
Current activities:
- finalisation of terms of reference and scope for this group (incl. definition of Safety and Security)
- definition of working relationships and lines of communication with other ECTRI Thematic Working Groups and others organisations - working on safety issues i.e. FERSI. In January 2009, the Forum of European Road Safety Institute (FERSI) released a common position paper with ECTRI on "The sustainable safety approach to Road Transport and Mobility". You can find it in the strategic document section.
- Identify specific elements for ECTRI FP7 initiated consortia
The TWG Safety and Security also prepared inputs for the FP7 update. These inputs have been gathered in a report entitled "White spots in the European Transport research traced by ECTRI's Thematic Working Groups". This report was released to the EC in June 2009.
